Last night I went and saw
King Of Kong: A Fistful Of Quarters. Steve Wiebe, who is one of
the Donkey Kong world record holders, was in attendance to attempt to
shatter his recently broken record (Fuck you, Billy Mitchell). I
didn't stay for that, as it would have taken almost three hours, but I hope
he did it. Go see the documentary when it gets its national release.
As for my ramble today, I have some new music from Illuminea's new album,
Out Of Our Mouths. The Joel Hamilton (Tom Waits, Sparklehorse)
produced effort is set to be released tomorrow via High Two Records and I
highly recommend that you pick it up. I've been listening to it for
about a week now and I think it's one of the more versatile pop albums I've
heard in awhile. Enjoy.

- Homewrecker:
If I were to label this as Rilo Kiley or some sort of untitled Jenny Lewis
project it would probably take you a little while to figure out something
was amiss. In part, it's because of Minna Choi's charming delivery,
but mainly it's due to the quirky, yet easily accessible mix of synth and
backup vocals that push the song along at a breezy pace. Expect this
to add some fun to your Monday.

- To Lose You As A Friend:
"When the sun rises you will see how sad it can really be." As with
every good pop band these days, there has to be a wide variety of sounds in
their repertoire. Here, Illuminea decides to go the way of a stripped
down version of Azure Ray, which works because of the same things that make
the other track good: fantastic vocal work and a well crafted
arrangement.
