I saw Superbad last
night. You absolutely, without question need to see it tonight.
So, I totally hate to be burdening you guys with an onslaught of songs this
week, but my inbox is overflowing and I need to share the wealth by way of
another EP. I sincerely hope that you can cope. Enjoy.

James - Need Your Needs:
Since John Davis (former drummer of Q And Not U) and Laura Burhenn call
Saddle Creek Records home I'm practically obligated to find something to
love in their work. Fortunately, that task was far from difficult due
to how wonderfully lush this piece of vintage pop is. Expect to see a
few more in-depth thoughts once I get my hands on their debut, Places,
which is due out September 25.
:Bring
Back The Guns - In Piles - On File:
I ignored this song for over a week because I honestly couldn't really get
into it. After a few listens though, I realized that their style of
mixing different elements of experimental pop and indie rock makes for a
great listen once you get through the slightly long intro. Hopefully,
their upcoming LP, Dry Futures, is geared towards the spirited
rocking more so than anything else (i.e. extended jamming).
:Deer
Tick - Diamond Rings 2007:
Personally, I think the name of this project is awful. But, I also
happen to think that John McCauley and Co. have a brilliant sound that
encompasses everything there is to love about twangy folk. So, in
other words, the bad name is canceled out by great music that deserves to
heard and praised by all. In my book that's a pretty fair trade.
Keep an eye out for the soon-to-be released War Elephant.
:The
Dark Water Hymnal - The Executioner:
This is an Austin band that I've been meaning to show some love for quite
awhile now. Their sound is very quiet, pretty and full of the kind of
great songwriting that draws you in and forces you to pay attention.
If you can, experience them with a nice pair of headphones and without any
visual distractions, as I think their material comes off best that way.

Bondy - There's A Reason:
There's something about this song that makes it hard to pin down as one
particular thing. On one hand it sounds like a slow burning tale of
tragedy, and then on the other hand it feels like a genuinely warm
number with a positive message. Either way, it has clearly done well
in peaking my interest, so I suppose that's all that matters. Check
out American Hearts when it drops on September 18.
