Just so you know, in the coming
months I will for sure be adding a film section to SOTO. Until that's
up and running though, I'm going to keep throwing out random
recommendations. So, my latest are: Rescue Dawn, the Kingdom
and Stardust. Now, remember a few weeks ago when I rambled
about the Budos Band and their soul funk sound? Well, as it turns out
that group is actually just a side project for two of its members, who spend
the majority of their time with today's artist, Sharon Jones and The
Dap-Kings. The group has apparently been around for quite some time,
but I've been oblivious to them until recently. Clearly, that means
I've been missing out, so feel free to tell me what to look into before
their new album, 100 Days, 100 Nights, drops in October. Enjoy.

Jones - 100 Days, 100 Nights:
Is it a coincidence that Sharon, the Queen Of Funk, and James Brown, the
Godfather Of Soul, share the same hometown of Augusta, Georgia? I most
definitely think not. It's like her and her powerful voice were meant
to follow in his footsteps. Though, my favorite thing about this is
that even if you take Sharon out of the equation it can still stand alone as
an instrumental piece. That's how good this funky number is inside and
out and all around.
This video of
the band performing live makes me want to see them so very
badly. I mean, they're funky and energetic enough in
their recordings, but on stage it seems as if they turn it
up a few notches and just let go. I need to experience
it! Does anyone know the name of this gem?
