Yesterday I had a moment in
which I realized that I had completely forgotten to ramble about the
Clientele. I have been passionately listening to a couple of tracks
from their new album, God Save The Clientele, for a couple of weeks
now, but for some reason I never took the time to share. Yes, I
understand that my actions could be considered selfish but I like to look at
it with a better late than never point of view. In any case,
the band's new full length was produced by Mark Nevers (Candi Station,
Lambchop, Bonnie Prince Billy ) and will be arriving on May 8 via the one
and only Merge Records. I think the disc is certainly shaping up to be
something that is going to make the quartet one of the more talked about in
2007. Enjoy.
:The Clientele - Bookshop Casanova:
It was this song that got me really excited about God Save The Clientele.
I love how smooth Alasdir Maclean is when he lets lyrical gems like "You've
got my name/Pick up my number/Let's be lovers" slide out. His vocal
style is a perfect match for the catchy guitar riffs and well placed
electro-pop elements that makeup the track's lush soundscape. This is
something that makes your week, not your day.
:The Clientele - Here Comes The Phantom:
Many of you will probably disagree but I think that this sounds like a
dream-pop version of something that the Beatles would do. The
arrangement is very catchy, and Maclean's voice has a bouncy energy in it
that will inspire head bobbing and repeated sing-a-long sessions. I am
amazed every single time that I get a moment to listen to this. Check
it out now.
