It's Monday.  I hope you all went and saw Grindhouse this weekend or I'm going to be really sad.  Anyway, let's move on to today's artist, Parker Longbough.  The Alaskan native, whose real name is Matt Witthoeft, is a former member of the short lived Uncle Jesse and will be releasing his debut album, Commander Comatose, on April 24.  Patrick McLaughlin (drums) and Rosko Lesko (bass) are also a part of the project and really help out on a disc that features a lot of breezy experimental pop music, which, seems really odd to me given that the description I just laid down sounds like it's for a band from some place like San Francisco.  Who knew that there were people out in Alaska keeping things light and indie?  Enjoy.

:Parker Longbough - Think On Your Own:  In a lot of ways the light vibe that this carries reminds me of early Weezer.  Maybe not necessarily in the lyrics, because Matt is not the songwriter that Rivers is, but definitely in the music where the guitars are so effortlessly playful that they make you want to close your eyes and sway.  Turn this one up loud when your day bogs down and you need to take a moment to kick back.

:Parker Longbough - Commander Comatose:  Matt gets pretty experimental in this but the end product is another breezy number that has a plentiful helping of inspired energy at its core.  I find it rather interesting that Matt seems to have a real knack for arranging things in a way that consistently feels comfortable, not cluttered.  It's too often that experimental pop artists pack whatever sounds that they can into a song just because it's possible to do so.
