If it's Friday the 13th and your aren't superstitious does the day actually happen?  I have no idea what they really means but to make up for it's lunacy I am prepared to present to you a ramble on a snazzy trio out of New York who work under the name Day For Night.  According to their website Day For Night is something that comes from the film world where it's used for scenes that are shot during the day but are made to look as if they were done at night so that it provides a lush and complex image.  The band's self titled EP, which was recorded by Jesse Cannon (The Cure, Dillinger Escape Plan, The Misfits) and mixed by Alap Momin (Dalek, Rye Coalition, Jets To Brazil), definitely has a sound that is deserving of such a name..  Enjoy.

:Day For Night - Badlands:  This song alone should be enough reason for someone out there to sign this band to a contract.  Kali has a magnificently powerful voice that reminds me of Erika from the Heartless Bastards but a little more subdued.  Erika has a sort of swagger but when Kali sings it sounds as if she is just effortlessly letting it flow out and not only is it really amazing, but it's a perfect compliment to band's slightly dark and well structured sound.  This one is highly recommended.

:Day For Night - Silver Beach:  The trio really delve into the aggressive side of things on this song and I really like it.  Everything is bombastic and sounds a lot like what Trent Reznor did on the last Nine Inch Nails album, With Teeth.  Only in this Kali replaces Trent's growl with some haunting vocal work and there really isn't anything electronic, it's all just straight rock.  I only advise that you listen to this when you are good and ready to do a little fist pumping.
