Guess what!? My inbox is
once again overstuffed with quality music and I have no choice but to dump a
nice amount of it onto all of your precious iPods and Zunes (I know a couple
of you have one) today. I have to say that while I love all of the
emails that clue me into so many artists there are moments in which I feel a
little overwhelmed. This is why I posted an EP a few weeks ago and
it's why you will probably see one every now and again for the rest of this
blog's life. Enjoy reaping the benefits of my promotional prowess.
:St Vincent - Now Now:
Who is Annie Clark? When did she join the Beggars Banquet roster? Has
she always been this good? These are the kinds of questions that I keep
asking myself whenever I listen to what I am calling one of the most
delightfully interesting songs of 2007. Every moment of this will keep
you on your toes in ways that seem so weird but work so well. She will
be more than loved when her album, Marry Me, drops on July 10.
:Morningbell - Lost Again:
What's this? Dreamy indie pop that busts out badass guitar solos?
It's not too often that indie pop gives us such things but that is exactly
what this crafty Florida quartet is providing on their Choose Your Own
Adventure themed album, Through The Belly Of The Sea. The
band calls the new full length the very first album that actually allows you
to arrange the songs in a way that results in the telling of whatever story
you wish. It looks as if June 3 will be your last day available to the
world since after that you will inevitably spend eternity on adventures with
Morningbell.
:Papier Tigre - Concrete Residential:
Mathy post punk from France is one of those things that just doesn't sound
right but that is very much the correct way to describe this trio.
They have a really neat precise sound that moves the song along well enough
to not be too brainy for casual listeners but still technical enough to win
over the more seasoned music seekers. If this gets you all worked up I
would advise you to look up Collectif Effervescence since they have the
band's debut album available now.
:Sleeping In The Aviary - Pop Song:
I love this song. It's sloppy, low-fi and as catchy as anything that
you are going to come across named Pop Song. The garage rock-esque
undertones of the thing could probably carry it on its own but the raw
vocals of Elliott Kozel and the way that they are thrown about in the most
pop-punk of fashions are what really make this such a good listen.
Oh, This Old Thing? is the name of the band's latest effort and it is
available now through Science Of Sound.
:Machine Go Boom - Build Me A Ladder:
To be honest this isn't a whole lot different than the Sleeping In The
Aviary track above. The vocal work is similar, as is the sound, yet
there is a rather sizeable amount of frantic energy that gives you no choice
but to get out of your chair and move around awkwardly. I love it when
a song make you want to do more than sit and listen and that is why I went
ahead an included it in the EP despite its similarities to SITA.
Collectible Escalators is who you need to search out if you are interested
in MGB's new album, Music For Parents.
On a completely unrelated but totally necessary side note, all of this
talk from the Weinsteins about splitting up Grindhouse is stupid. I
see or read about every film that comes out and I will say that hand's down
this was one of the best times that I have ever had at a theater. I
highly recommend that you get out to see it before the money hungry goons
jump the gun and ruin the experience.
