- TV On The Radio - Houston, TX - Meridian -

Last night I attended a show that was slightly weird.  I had seen both the Noisettes and TV On The Radio on different occasions last year and figured that I knew what I was in for.  Well, I ended up getting a show that was pretty much the opposite of what I was expecting.  Enjoy the show review and be sure not to miss the weekly podcast at the bottom of the post.

- The Noisettes -

When I saw the Noisettes perform at Stubb's during SXSW last year the band was on a huge stage that almost didn't seem big enough.  Singer Shingai Shoniwa was bounding about and singing her heart out through every one of their energetic songs.  Sadly, there was pretty much none of this going on last night.  Outside of a moment or two Shingai pretty much never left her post on the right side of the stage and the other two members of the band did the same as they plowed through their set.  I was expecting a thunderous performance to kick off the show and instead I got a replication of the group's upcoming album, What's The Time Mr. Wolf.  Weird.

Set List:  Young Liars/Wrong Way/Dreams/Province/I Was A Lover/Wolf/Dirty Whirl/Blues/Blind/Dry Drunk Emperor/Sattelite/Method/Devil/Staring At The Sun

The last time I saw TV On The Radio they pretty much pissed me off by coming on incredibly late and performing a set full of songs from the then unreleased Return To Cookie Mountain.  Fortunately last night had none of the same problems and the band put on an inspired set.  I think they have really improved as a live band over the year since I saw them and it was evident in just how captivating they were.  I had a great time watching the group pour everything they had into their performance and even though they didn't do Ambulance they had all of their best songs on the set list.  I highly recommend getting out to see them on this tour.

On a side note, as far as I know no other band pulls its roadies, friends and fellow touring bands out on stage with them during their encore.  It is a really cool watching a bunch of musicians banging around on stuff for a couple of songs.  It's almost worth attending the show just for that part.

:SOTO - Episode 10:  This week I have some thoughts on EMI dropping DRM and various news and notes.  As for music, I have new stuff from The Mother Hips, A Night In The Box, Hooray For Earth, The Rosebuds, Yacht and Thrushes.  This episode is so awesome I think I might download it.
