On occasion I really like to stray from the (e)mail that I receive and use Elbo, Myspace, or Hype Machine to seek out releases that I may have missed out on.  I always find something worthwhile and yesterday was no different as I was searching the charts on Elbo and came across some great songs by the veteran band Palomar.  The Brooklyn quartet is made up of three ladies and one guy and they have just released their fourth full length titled All Things, Forest for Misra Records.  I have to be honest and point out that even though the band has a storied history that includes tours with Mates Of State and Spoon, I had not a clue as to who they were when I saw their name.  Enjoy and feel free to recommend other Palomar material if you are familiar with them.

:Palomar - Our Haunt:  If you enjoy melancholic indie rock then this is going to blow your pants off.  I really like how it has an arrangement that feels very smartly put together with Dale providing a nice strong beat that is a perfect match for the crafty vocal/guitar work that the ladies contribute.  It also has a considerable amount of pop sensibility and lyrical nuggets such as "With you gone I lost my piece of mind."  This is the way to kick off a new month.

:Palomar - Bury Me Closer:  Compared to the song above the band sounds like they are having the time of their life in this one.  I love it when the whole lot of them belt out the chorus of "Bury me closer/Bury me closer/Bury me/Cause you are the last thing in this world I want to see/And when I close my eyes and cease to be/Bury me closer."  This one is highly recommended for those of you who thought the song above was a little too soaked in melancholy and are looking for something with a lighter feel.
