We are at the end of the month!
I thought the last couple weeks had flown by but now that I see we are going
to be in October by the end of the weekend I am sitting around wondering
where the time went. I added Permalinks to the site this week and I am
still working on some other little things to spruce it up. If any of
you see anything that I should have then email me and let me know. The
EP this week is all about the buzz bands again and unless I feel the need to
express a different theme it will probably default to that every week.
Enjoy!
Also, would you guys be interested in being able to download these in a zip
file?
Friday EP Vol. 4
:Can Joann - Indecision's Way:
These guys from Chapel Hill, North Carolina are pretty amazing. I had
never even heard of them until they made a big splash this past week on
blogs everywhere. I saw a number of comparisons to Cursive's Tim
Kasher and I have to say that the vocals are similar (no one can be as good
as TK). The band's sound is not very much like Cursive but it is
something that commands attention. Can Joann was my surprise band of
the week and now they can be yours.
:The Silents - Little People:
The first thing that this band made me think of was The Vines (who
they just wrapped up a tour with). I very much liked the first Vines
album because of how it was garage rock with a fun pop twist and The Silents
emulate that sound but I think that they do it better then their fellow
Australians. I love the vibe this song has and it is a blast to
just hang out and listen too.
:Fields - Song For The Fields:
I keep seeing the word progressive used to describe the band and when I
don't see that I see people comparing them to Broken Social Scene. I
think both apply and I should admit that I have listened to this song about
12 times in a row because of how awesome it is. The music is stunning
and the vocals are more then captivating.
:The Changes - When I Wake:
The moment this song starts you will immediately begin to tap your feet
with the music, then right after the vocals kick in you will feel the
overwhelming need to sing-a-long to a song that you don't know the words
too. That sentence pretty much describes my feelings towards this
song. I don't know what is in the water in Chicago but there are a
huge number of great indie pop bands calling that place home and if anymore
come out I might have to move there.
:120 Days - Come Out (Come Down, Fade Out, Be Gone):
120 Days is on Vice, which is
the home of MSTRKRFT. The mere mention of that label and that band
should alert you that this is going to be some sort of electro-pop song.
That is mostly true except that this is a nine minute Norwegian electro-pop
song which is way better. This song pounds and pounds with it's well
crafted snyth and hypnotizing vocals until you realize that is has yet again
been another nine minutes since you started the track. Enjoy blowing
an entire afternoon listening to this and busting your best moves.
