For those of you that are regulars to the site you may remember my post about The Lovely Sparrows a couple of weeks ago.  As it turns out Earl Vallery from The Lovely Sparrows is the very same exact Earl Vallery from the object of my affection today, The Heirs.  Earl is not alone though as Courtney Hans, Stephen Smith, and Jacob Cuthbertson round out the rest of the Austin group that formed in October of 2005.  Somehow in a little less then a year the band has managed to create a really nice little catalog that is full of must-hear songs (And to think that I always assumed the first year was spent deciding on a cool name and coming up with signature rock poses).  In any case it looks like I need to chalk this up as yet another reason to move to Austin.

:The Heirs - In The Name Of:  The first thing that I would like to note is that Earl has a knack for finding himself in the company of talented vocalists.  I really like Courtney's voice in this song because it comes off as incredibly earnest and heartfelt, plus if you listen closely there is a tad bit of Maura Davis that comes in and out.  It is not just Courtney's vocals that sound earnest and heartfelt though as the entire song feels that way and the peaks and valleys in this track are as captivating as can be.  The Heirs have a lot of depth and In The Name Of is definitely one of those songs that gives you a little something different every time that you give it a listen.

:The Heirs - Nails & Teeth:  In Nails & Teeth The Heirs show off some of that depth I mentioned up above by creating a really nice indie pop song.  The best part is that it manages to stray away from the ho-hum structure that most indie pop songs falls into and instead keeps the band's captivating sound, which is a nice relief.  Courtney is spot on again in this and she gets some added flavor from the band throughout the song as well.  I love this song and I think that The Heirs will soon be making a name for themselves, especially if they keep their particular brand of indie rock.

Take a moment to become their friend over on Myspace and if you live in Austin then make sure you buy them lunch or some sort of alcoholic beverage at the least.
