Was it just me or did this week
zoom by at a wildly unbelievable speed? I added a lot to the site this
week and I hope that you guys like the new goodies. I really love the
new banner (Photoshop is my friend) and if you check under "Resources" in
the sidebar
there are some new and exciting things such as an XML Feed, a Digg button,
and a couple of Google Ads to maybe generate some pocket change. As
for the third volume of the Friday EP, this week is all about the
buzz bands. I have seen posts about these bands everywhere and I felt
that I should take a moment to group them together and throw out some
comments. Enjoy this and your weekend.
Friday EP Vol. 3
:Annuals - Bleary Eyed:
This band has a great sound and I am still dumbfounded that the front
man is only 19. There seems to be a number of really great
young artists around these days (I'm looking at you Willy Mason and Be Your
Own Pet) and they all seem to bring a different edge to whatever genre
they're doing. For instance the Annuals remind me a lot of the Arcade
Fire but with a twist, check it out and see what I mean.
:The Bishops - The Only Place I Can Look Is Down:
Continuing the trend of UK bands that seemingly would have been huge in the
60's is London's The Bishops. Everything about this song is catchy and
all of the comparisons to The Kink are pretty spot on. If you want
something to sing-a-long too in your house this weekend then this is your
song.
:The Diggs - Everyone Is Starting Over:
I really love this song. There is just something about it that makes
me want to listen to it over and over again. Maybe it is the hope
filled lyrics or perhaps it is the ever rising speed of the music throughout
the song. Whatever it is I love it and I highly recommend that you
give this a listen.
:Bound Stems - Wake Up, Ma And Pa Are Gone:
This is another band that prompts me to make mention of The Arcade
Fire but it is only because Bound Stems is being called Chicago's version.
I don't know if that is entirely accurate but the band is pretty fantastic
and I really love how this song kind of has an awkward structure but it is
still something that you can listen too casually.
:The Postmarks - Goodbye:
If there is an award out their
for prettiest indie pop song of the year then I think that it should be
given to this band right now. The vocals and the music are lovely and
more then a pleasure to listen too. When I hear this for some reason
it makes me think of a really pop version of Rilo Kiley, which, given that I
am in love with Jenny Lewis isn't a bad thing.
