So today I decided to click
wildly and randomly throughout Myspace to confirm my theory that no matter
what you will inevitably run across some great music. I began with a
Langhorne Slim post and then stumbled my way through a couple of Top 8's for
about 15 minutes and somehow ended up at the page of
Lemuria. In compliance with my theory
the band is totally amazing and I must share them with you. They are a
three-piece indie pop band from Buffalo, New York and are currently in the
process of recording a couple of 7" that will be out at some point in the
next year or so. Sometimes I wonder what the world would be like
without Myspace.
:Lemuria - Hours:
When I hear this song I wonder why I have never heard it before.
Hours is a fantastic pop song and I really love how there are a
couple of pop punk moments scattered throughout the two minutes of the track
that give it a little edge. All three members of the band sing but
this one is more geared towards Sheena Ozzella who comes across as being
really sweet, even with lines like "This is torture, it's fucking horrible"
flowing out of her mouth. For whatever reasons this song lightly
reminds of Metric and I can clearly see it being the feature song in a movie
about High School. If that didn't peak your curiosity then you may be
dead.
:Lemuria - The Origamists:
This song features all three members of the band singing and I must admit
that I like it just as much as when it is just Sheena. I mentioned up
above how the band incorporates a little pop punk in their songs and with
the guys, Alexander Kerns and Jason Draper, singing it comes across even
more and it works really well. In fact they may want to think about
changing their description to indie pop punk. Regardless of that this
song is a lot of fun and is good music to ride around in the car and listen
too. I think Lemuria is posed to make a big splash with their style of
indie pop punk, keep an eye out for those two 7" I mentioned up above.
On a side note something happened to Lemuria that I have heard about but
never actually seen. Somebody hacked their old Myspace page, which you
can find
here, and applied a sort of Fresh Prince
style theme to everything. Shouldn't this only happen to crappy
artists?
