My first couple of posts this
week have been about more brainy eclectic artists and today I think it is
time to throw all of that out the window and just have some good old
fashioned fun. The enjoyable time that I speak of is brought to you
today via Livewire Recordings and the debut from The Comfies. Close
To Me is the name of their new EP and I am here to tell you that it is
quite a blast to listen too since they do a great job at mixing some catchy
songwriting with a style of music that encompasses indie pop an garage rock.
The band is made up of Benjamin Adam Harper, Nathan Hansen, Sam Smith, and
Raf Cevallos and all of them together compile a resume that includes indie
favs such as Bang Bang Bang, Silent Friction, The Pink Spiders, and The
Darling Hearts. All of that is pretty fancy but the most amazing thing
to me is that Myspace paved the way for the band signing with Livewire and
releasing an EP. It always blows my mind how Myspace seems to be
the place for finding up and coming artists, now only if it wasn't so
unorganized and ugly.
:The
Comfies - Close To Me:
For some reason I always expect a lot from the song that also doubles as the
title track of the album. I'm not sure exactly why that is but I think
that I just assume that the song must be amazingly good if the band felt the
need to make it the title of the disc. Luckily my theory stays true
here as Close To Me is an awesome song that is definitely deserving
of being the title track. I love all of the energy that is put forth
in this, it will immediately make you want to attempt to sing-a-long
regardless of whether or not you even know a single line. Harper's
vocals and the band's undeniable charm are more then an enjoyable
experience. Use this to lighten your day.
:The Comfies - That's What She Gets:
This song is still a lot of fun but I really like how it is more of a
relaxed fun. In some ways it reminds me of The Rewinds, another
Livewire act that I posted about a couple of weeks ago. Like Close
To Me though the song is instantly something that you feel the need to
sing-a-long too and I think it is specifically because of the killer chorus
that constantly repeats "that's what she gets, that's what everyone gets
from me." Harper and crew also sport some nice harmony work in this
and that along with the laid back vibe of the song really allows for
something that is going to get stuck in your head for quite sometime.
Close To Me is available now and you can pick it up
here if you want, I highly recommend that
you do since its only $7! If you are feeling lonely seek friendship
with The Comfies
here.
