Today I realized that I am a complete sucker for anything that has a female vocalist.  I had a couple of ideas as to who I wanted to write about today but the instant that I heard a couple of songs from BoySkout I totally lost all concentration on whatever else I had been thinking about sharing with all of you.  The best thing is that even if I could manage to care less about female musicians I would still consider the material from BoySkout's new album, Another Life, to be incredible.  Leslie Satterfield, Piper, Christina, Steven Strehler, and Ingrid make up the San Francisco band that decided to capture my attention today and I think you will like their brand of synthesized post punk.

:BoySkout - Fantastic:  Leslie has some really great vocals and I love how accessible they are throughout this song.  I mean despite my love for all female vocalists I think some have such powerful vocals that they over sing and in turn are more of something that you listen and don't sing-a-long too.  Luckily Leslie doesn't sound that way and for me she is the highlight of the song.  This of course is not to take anything away from the band who are pretty great in their own right, I especially love how they are taking a sound that isn't exactly original but they are making it their own and I really like how it feels like a refreshing take on the genre.

:BoySkout - Everybody Knew:  The first time I heard this song I knew that it would be a guilty pleasure song for me  and this was before I had made it through the whole track.  I love how different this song feels in comparison to Fantastic and I especially love how the band is obviously capable of changing it up and sounding pop or anything else they want, when they want.  Sometimes you don't have to reinvent a genre to be great, you can take the BoySkout's road and just be really good at what you do, it also doesn't hurt if you bring on a Producer like David Schiffman who has worked with The Mars Volta,  Johnny Cash, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.  This song is lovely and I highly recommend that you download it.

Another Life is available now on Three Ring Records and just based on these two songs I would recommend picking it up and loving it forever.  As always take a moment to become friends with them on Myspace.
