Am I the only one that has those moments where Winamp suddenly shows you something you have never seen before?  I have roughly 15,000 Mp3s and in all honesty I do not know every single song and I am not sure that I ever will.  For instance I was wondering what I was going to post about today when a song came on and took three minutes and 22 seconds away from my life without me even noticing.  I just sat in my chair and stared at the keyboard as a wall of sound, from some artist I had never before, pounded my ears.  It turns out that a week or so ago I had downloaded some tracks by Adem and then in the mix of a busy week I forgot about them until Winamp promptly reminded me that I needed to give them a listen.  Either Winamp can read my mind or it was fate for me to be mesmerized by the man known as Adem Ilhan.

:Adem - Something's Going To Come:  This was the song that made me space out.  I love how at the beginning of the song there is just enough to grab your attention and then the moment it has you hooked it shifts right before the 1:00 mark in an obvious attempt to never let your thoughts go.  I find myself getting to that mark and then promptly starting the song over again just so that I can experience it as many times as possible.  If you give this a listen take a moment to check out how the song has a folk style structure with a lot of layers that give it a really nice modern sound.  I hate to use the term nu-folk but it is kind of fitting.

:Adem - Launch Yourself:  If for some reason the last song was too much for you then this will be the track to win you over.  It could just be me but it seems like Adem has a real knack for making accessible music that isn't devoid of smart lyrics and an interesting sound.  I found myself quickly humming along to this song with lyrics like "you left me stranded while you broke through to other worlds" bouncing around in my head like they had been there forever.  I highly recommend checking this out.

Adem's latest album, Love And Other Planets, is out now (how come no one told me sooner?) on Domino Records.  The man also has less friends on Myspace then I do and I believe that is illegal in at least 23 states, go there now to prevent my incarceration.
