Sorry for the mid-afternoon
post, I pretty much took yesterday to do nothing but lay on the couch and
not tend to any of my jobs or projects. I have to admit that it was
pretty nice and I am feeling refreshed. I am also feeling pumped up
because my Wolfmother tickets arrived in the mail today. I know a lot
of people are split on the Australian band and I have heard every "if I
wanted to listen to classic rock I would just listen to the original bands"
argument and I think they are all retarded. Wolfmother is pure fun,
especially to ride around in the car too. There are a lot of other
bands that are invoking the 70's rock scene and since everyone has heard
Wolfmother I decided to share a band that you may not have heard.
Priestess (perfect name right?) is the band that I am speaking and they are
the owners of a more modern rock oriented sound that carries a heavy 70's
vibe. Mikey Heppner (vocals/guitar), Mike Dyball (bass), Vince Nudo
(vocals/drums), and Dan Watchorn (vocals/guitar) having only been together
since 2003 but they are a blast to listen too and I am excited to be sharing
them with you.
:Priestess - Lay Down:
This song is badass. Now I know that last statement isn't
exactly in-depth or even really that creative but it is difficult to come up
with anything else when you are more concerned with striking your favorite
rock poses in your underwear. Mikey Heppner has some great vocals and
along with the band doing a mix of the Burden Brothers and Black Sabbath the
song just comes to life and fills the room with an undeniable need to rock.
I love everything in this song and remember that this isn't about critical
thinking or indie pop analysis, it's about having fun, so have some.
:Priestess
- Talk To Her:
Talk To Her is more of the same but the band tones down some of
their 70's rock influences and leans towards more a modern rock sound that
reminds me of the Burden Brothers, whom I mentioned up above. "Wake up
its time, open your eyes, you've got to let her go." Who hasn't ever
had to say that to a friend at some point? So not only does the band
have a sound that is easy to immediately be into they also have songs that
are easy to relate too. Priestess has everything you need, you heard
it hear first.
Priestess' new album, Hello Master, is out now on
RCA
Records and if you are into vinyl (who isn't!?) then you can also
pick that up now on
Ace Fu Records. As always, meet and
greet on
Myspace.
