Last week I mentioned how my
love for all things indie pop had reached an all time high this year and
then I promptly blamed it on all of the fine artists that are doing so many
interesting things with the genre. I still feel that way but I think
that I should note that the band who kick started my obsession was The Magic
Numbers along with their self titled debut for Capitol Records. I had
heard good things about the band last year but I didn't bother really giving
them a listen until early January and since then there has not been a week
that I have not had TMN on in the house or car at least once. So
naturally I was elated when I found out that the band would be releasing
their new album, Those The Brokes, in November and then I almost lost
my mind when the first single showed up online over at
A Plague Of Angels. Given that I only
have one song from the new album I put up the band doing a Tim Buckley
cover as a bonus, enjoy!
:The Magic Numbers - Take A Chance:
I have to say that I immediately breathed a sigh of relief within the first
minute of this song. I was slightly worried that the band would either
lose their sound or make the same album again but fortunately TMN decided to
take their sound and amp it up a little bit. The vocal harmony between
Romeo, Michele, and Angela is still as strong as ever but Take A Chance
features a much more upbeat and concise sound that is a refreshing addition
to the band's catalog. I have already heard this song an unhealthy
amount of times and I am not sure that November 6 can get here soon enough.
:The Magic Numbers - Sing A Song For You (Tim Buckley
Cover):
Tim Buckley is talented and so are The Magic Numbers. There is not
much I can really say about this song except that it is beautifully done and
you will probably finding yourself listening to it over and over again
because every time it somehow just doesn't feel like three and a half
minutes have passed by. Seriously.
On a side note, I am dedicating this post to my friend Kendra. Today
she began working at Hobby Lobby in an attempt to pull herself out of that
post-graduate slump that so many of us experience. So this one is for
you Kendra, here is to not having to move back home to live with your
parents. = )
