Well, it's been a long time coming but today finally marks the release of Brand New's The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Of Me which is the band's debut for Interscope Records and the follow-up to 2003's stellar Deja Entendu.  It seems like forever ago that I was completely in love with this band and while I have pretty much moved away from at least 75% of the punk/emo scene I still think this band is one of the best in any genre.  Now regardless of my enormous respect for Brand New I have to say that I was more than worried when the group jumped from Razor & Tie to Interscope and then proceeded to take an eternity to debut some new music; in other words I thought the new disc was going to be awful.  I should have known better to doubt the guys in Brand New because they have created an album that takes the pop punk of Your Favorite Weapon and the more indie enthused emo of Deja Entendu and subdues them in favor of a sound that is borderline epic.  In a lot of ways Brand New arrived with their last album but with the help of Interscope and a fantastic new disc I think they are ready to seize the world.

:Brand New - Sowing Season (Yeah) Removed At Interscope's Request This song tricks you at the beginning with a sort of low-fi approach and just when you think it is another one of those fantastically depressing slow burners that the band did so well on their last  album it explodes at the 1:02 mark.  Then it proceeds to take you on a rollercoaster until my favorite part at the 3:28 point when it breaks down and Jesse screams "I'm not your friend/I'm not your lover."  This is a stellar song and it is easy to see why this was chosen to be the first single off the new album, prep yourself to hear it everywhere for the next couple of months.

:Brand New - Jesus Christ Removed At Interscope's Request:  If I had to pick one song that sounds like it was left off of Deja Entendu three years ago it would be this one.  The familiarity that it provides is also why I posted it because while the band has reached for the stars with their new disc they still know how to write songs that are slow and methodical in their presentation.  I love how Jesus Christ builds and builds until you can't take it anymore and then almost as if to avoid leaving you in a jumbled mess it uses the last 45 seconds of the song to unwind your weary mind.
