Yesterday I noted how I was going to take a break from posting so much bubblegum enthused indie pop and after a day off I figured today was as good as any to get back to it.  Now the reason why today is the best day to end my overly long break is simply because of the San Francisco band that calls themselves The Monolith.  The band came together in 2001 and is on the verge of releasing Meet You At The Monolith which is the follow-up to their debut album, Here Comes The Monolith, which came out on Fortune Records in 2004.  I will be honest and say that I had never heard of the band or the label before yesterday but I am more then happy that they fell in my lap.  The Monolith have a fantastic sound that is retro, bubblegum, melodic and just about anything else that one could possibly find enjoyable from an indie pop band.  I instantly fell in love with what Bill, Dahlia, Daniel and Nils have put together on their second full length and I think after you give them a listen you will see why I had to end the forever long break from posting the best kind of indie pop.

:The Monolith - Middle Of The Movie:  I think this song is perfect; you can sing-a-long with it, Dahlia's vocal work is impeccable and the music is beautifully constructed.  In fact the moment that the song starts, ever so softly, it will feel like something you should be taking time to listen too and then when Dahlia begins singing you will see why I think this song is so great.  The music is great as well and I am all about how the bubblegum here really enhances the retro vibe; this is a total blast to listen too.

:The Monolith - The Sounding:  I love melodic pop and with Dahlia in more of a supporting role as Bill takes the center stage that is exactly what this becomes.  What's crazy is how well the music once again compliments the vocalist.  It seems like more often then not bands throw together music that is different just for the sake of it instead of actually creating something that fits what the song is trying to do. The retro vibe and the accessibility of the song are still very strong in The Sounding so get your sing-a-long ready.

Meet You At The Monolith can be streamed in it's entirety here and while you are giving the album a thorough listen take a second to send the band a friend request over on Myspace.
