Check out the total weirdness
of it being the 10th of the month and the 10th EP, the stars are aligned
today my friends. Actually I think they have been aligned all week
because I have been treated to all kinds of cool stuff: Lost ended the
Fall season on a high note, Cartman almost got a Nintendo Wii, the Democrats
seized everything, Gear of War released on the Xbox 360, The Magic
Numbers released their new album, and Borat, Babel and
Stranger Than Fiction arrived in wide release at theaters today!
You have to love a week that's got a little bit of everything.
Speaking of everything that's what I have for you this week; remember you
heard the buzz hear first.
Friday EP Vol. 10
:Graham Coxon - Standing On My Own:
Things are looking up for Graham as his latest album (this is the first
single from that disc) has been getting positive reviews in the UK and there
are some rumors that he might be joining back up with Blur. Even
better is the fact that despite all of that great news none of it even
compares to how fantastic this song is. Standing On My Own is a
very smart piece of indie pop and I am already starting to wonder if it will
ever leave my head.
:Via Audio - We Can Be Good:
Chris Walla has given this band his stamp of approval and they have Mr. Eno
of Spoon helping produce their record. With those two the title of the
song really rings true and fortunately the band lives up to the expectations
that come with being associated with Death Cab For Cutie and Spoon.
Indie pop is always present on this blog and if stuff this good keeps coming
out then it will probably stay that way forever.
:Memphis - I'll Do Whatever You Want:
I absolutely love Torquil Campbell (Stars) and when I found out that
Memphis was him, Jamie Shaw (Metric) and Josh Trager (Sam Roberts Band) my
head almost exploded with excitement. If there was an official count
on how many times I have listened too Set Yourself On Fire it would
border on being ridiculous. Torquil, as expected, is excellent in this
and I really like the fancy horn work that accompanies his vocals.
:Christina Rosenvinge - A Liar To Love:
Anyone that works with Sonic Youth probably doesn't need me to spread the
good word about them but A Liar To Love is so great I couldn't help
but to include it on the EP. What I like most about this is that while
Christina's voice is in the spotlight throughout the song the music never
becomes boring. It would be really easy to just let Christina carry
every song so you have to appreciate the effort that was obviously put in to
make this an all around captivating listen.
:Beach House - Tokyo Witch:
The CMJ Music Marathon was last week and one of the artists that
generated a lot of buzz after it was all said and done was Beach House.
I think I have a soft spot for duos, especially ones that create mood music.
Tokyo Witch feels like something that is tailored for the Fall; it is
soft and quiet for those times when you get a chance to take a break from
the busyness that comes with the Holiday Season.
