It would appear that we are
once again at the end of the week which means it's EP time. I would
have liked to of been a lot more productive this week but setting up the new
site has been a major pain in the ass; there has been more than one instance
where I have wanted to throw my computer down the stairs. Speaking of
the site, I need to get back too it so enjoy the bands that were buzzed
about this week.
Friday EP Vol. 14
:Low - Candy Girl:
This Subpop band has been around for awhile making quality albums and
despite the fact that their newest release, Drums And Guns, won't be
out until March I suppose it is never too soon to start getting people
excited. Candy Girl is slow, moody and beautifully constructed;
I highly recommend slapping on a good pair of headphones for this one.
:My Latest Novel - The Hope Edition:
I first head about this Scottish five-piece a couple of months ago but
for some reason I didn't bother to really give them a listen. As it
would turn out that was a mistake because My Latest Novel sounds like a
glorified indie pop version of The Arcade Fire and I totally should have
been enjoying this during the last part of the year; I suppose it is better
to have heard than have never heard at all, and stuff.
:Six Parts Seven - Stolen Moments:
I would have been willing to lay down money that the new Explosions In The
Sky disc was going to be the best instrumental album of 2007 but after
hearing this song I think that Six Parts Seven are going to give them a run
for their money. I keep listening to Stolen Moments over and
over again wondering if would even be possible to do anything more lush and
beautiful, this is my favorite song from the EP this week.
:The Meeting Places - Until It's Gone:
2006 has been quite a year for shoegaze and with bands like The Meeting
Places making such great music it isn't too difficult to see why there has
been a resurgence. I really like Until It's Gone and I think
that the band's dense sound is what really sells it for me; all of the
layers are wonderfully put together.
:The Manhattan Love Suicides - Suzy Jones:
I think that The Manhattan Love Suicides and their fuzzed out noise
pop are the perfect way to end the EP this week. The band really knows
how to write a catchy song and when the singer's fantastic melodic vocals
start Suzy Jones is just too hard to not sing-a-long with, download
this one if you don't feel like thinking today.
