I have been waiting pretty
impatiently for Mos Def's new album, Tru3 Magic, from the second I
found out that it was going to be arriving for public consumption on January
9. Until today, when I stumbled across a few new songs, I had actually
managed to put the thought of new material from one of my favorite hip hop
artists in the back of my mind, now I can't wait to hear the entire
thing. As far as I can tell this could quite possibly be Mos' best
effort to date; in just the few songs that I have heard it really sounds
like what people were expecting from The New Danger. I actually
love that album, which is his second full length, more than his debut,
Black On Both Sides, mainly because I really enjoyed hearing him use
such a wide variety of music. In any case Mos Def is one of the best
around so try not to let the songs below blow your mind.
:Mos
Def - Napoleon Dynamite:
I'm kind of surprised at how short this song is but I suppose it
doesn't really matter given the fact that it's pretty much just Mos showing
why he is so highly regarded for the entire two minute runtime. If
Black On Both Sides is your favorite album by Mos then you will probably
be into Napoleon Dynamite, just about everything in this feels like
what he was doing before The New Danger. Now only if he had not
named the song Napoleon Dynamite.
:Mos Def - Undeniable:
Of the four new songs that I have heard this one if my favorite. The
production values are pretty high and I think it makes for one of the best
songs in Mos Def's catalog. Of course my high regard for this could be
because it feels like a logical progression from The New Danger; the
music in particular sounds better thought out and performed. I'm going
to let you know now that the hook in this is killer, I doubt it will leave
my head, or yours, before the album drops.
