II am totally psyched that today
is the first day of the best month of the year, December. Now I'm all
about the standard holiday stuff but what I really love is how everyone
pretty much takes all of December to reflect on what they either loved or
hated throughout the year. In fact I am already expecting to start
seeing "Best Of 2006" lists pop up next week and I am more than ready to see
what stuck with people over the course of the year. As for myself I am
planning on unveiling my massive '06 list the day after Christmas so that
the year can end properly and slide ever so easily into 2007 when I hope to
have the site bigger and better with a new design (if you have any ideas
please email me or leave a comment), interviews and a weekly podcast.
I believe fun times are ahead of us my friends; make sure to enjoy what was
buzzed about this week.
Friday EP Vol. 13
:The Oohlas - Small Parts:
This band has the former drummer of Everclear as it's lead guitarist, a
crafty bubblegum pop sound, a female vocalist and a cute name; good luck
finding anything that you would like added to The Oohlas or their engaging
gem of a song that is Small Parts.
:Foreign Islands - We Know You Know It:
We Know You Know It is badass and after you listen too it I know
that you will know why I think so, and stuff. In all seriousness
though I think it is pretty great how this band has recklessly thrown
together spazz-rock and dance in an attempt to get you off your ass,
download this one now.
:Fujiya And Miyagi - Ankle Injuries:
Since you probably blew out a knee bouncing around your apartment to
Foreign Islands I figured I should follow it up with a dance number that is
a bit more laid back. Ignore the name though F&M is a trio from
England that write mellow electronic pop and not a couple of musically
inclined karate robots that write techno thumpers.
:Jihae - Cement Garden:
Who is this lady!? Not only does her album, which comes out in 2007,
have guest appearances by Michel Gondry, Lenny Kravitz and Patrik McCarthy
but it was also produced by Brent Arnold (Sleater Kinney, Modest Mouse).
Those names don't necessarily say quality to me as much as they scream high
expectations but fortunately for Jihae she will have nothing to worry about
if the entire album is as good as the modern pop wonder that is Cement
Garden.
:Children Collide - Frozen Armies:
Alright, out of everything in the EP this week I think that this will
be the song that most of you will quickly become attached too. I
really like how Frozen Armies is a melodic indie pop song at it's
core but surrounding that core is a few layers of dance-enthused indie rock
that, as you would expect from such a description, makes for a quite a
listen.
