One of the things that I enjoyed the most when I was KSAU was getting promotional albums that came with origin stories about bands and their sound. I figured that I had seen my fair share of interesting stories until I received an email yesterday that described how Dark Side Of The Cop came to be. "Originally conceived as an alternate soundtrack to the 80’s classic Beverly Hills Cop, Dark Side evolved out of “one of the greatest origin-gimmicks ever” into a shimmering synth-pop masterpiece backed by an electronic orchestra that would make Brian Wilson smile." This description was so insane that I ignored the rest of the email and immediately began listening in anxious curiosity as to what this group sounded like. And what they sound like is BRILLIANT.

:Dark Side Of The Cop - Shaky Little Rules: The press release that I mentioned up above described the band as synth-pop, I disagree and feel that Dark Side should be described as fully realized and perfectly done synth-pop. I have been in possession of this song only for a few hours and I have listened too it more times then I feel comfortable saying, did I mention that it's perfect? "S/T," the first in a trilogy of albums, is available here and outside of it's amazing sound it also follows the story of a cop from Detroit as he searches Los Angeles for his childhood love, asking for more would end the world.

:Dark Side Of The Cop - Love Me From Above: I was originally just going to post up "Shaky Little Rules" because of how fantastic it is as a stand alone song but as I was visiting the band's Myspace I noticed that this track was available for download, so I figured I would give you a little something extra to gush over. This song is short, it comes in right under two minutes, but it still manages to be packed with more then enough to pay attention too. Marco Panella and Roger Thomasson have created something that is amazing with headphones but still able to fill a room with sounds that are just too good to use as background music. I need this on vinyl.
