A few years ago if someone had said to me that they wanted me to check out some band that combined various elements of indie pop, electronic sounds, and folk-ish vocals, I probably would have given it a listen, but I know that it would have been with the idea that it probably wouldn't work too well. Then came the Postal Service and as they proceeded to blow everyone's minds, including mine, it opened the door for a lot of other bands that shared a similar style. This year has been especially nice and there have been two bands in particular that have helped me in the long wait for the next PS disc, they are Electric President and the Age of Rockets.

:Electric President - Good Morning, Hypocrite: I love Electric President. In fact, I think I love them as much as I love the Postal Service. There is so much to be crazy about when it comes to this band but for me it all starts with the vocals and the lyrics. Ben Cooper and Alex Kane are amazing at capturing my attention with songs that are very intimate and that is why I think they are just as good as the Postal Service. While Gibbard and Co. make songs that get stuck in your head, Electric President makes songs that reward you with lines that float around in your head and make you think. In case you don't like thinking there is also some nicely crafted electronic pop music in there as well. I highly recommend picking up their self titled debut full length, it has been around since January so it should not be too hard to locate.

:Age of Rockets - Pétales Aiment La Saleté: "You are the punch line in every joke that I have ever told." If the song only contained that line I think it would be enough, there is just something about it that makes me think about breakups and how people look back on their relationships afterwards. It is like suddenly everything is a joke and that ex-whatever that was a period of frustration ends up being something that provides humor, weird. I should also mention that the vocals in this song, provided by the ever so sweet sounding Andrew, are overly fantastic and the music is indie electronic pop at it's finest. The band's debut album, "The Drive Home," is available on their website along with a couple of other downloadable songs.
