Today's post arrived to me in the strangest of ways. It was suppose to be a couple of the songs from that Yeah Yeah Yeah's EP that just came out on iTunes. The EP contains a Sonic Youth cover and a couple of acoustic songs so I figured it would be worth checking out and sharing with everyone. I spent quite awhile searching for the Sonic Youth cover but had no luck finding it in MP3 format, luckily though I did run across a number of things that I had never heard from the band so I decided to post them up instead. I will keep an eye out for that SY cover but for now enjoy these semi-rare YYY's tracks.

:Arcade Fire - Maps (YYY Cover):  At first I figured that this would be a nasty train wreck. I love the Arcade Fire more than anyone but I kind of had the feeling that it would sound completely wrong if Karen O was not singing the song. I should have never doubted the mighty Arcade Fire because I think that this version is just as good as the YYY's original take. I absolutely love how the beat and pacing of the song has been kept but the rest of it has been given that distinct Arcade Fire sound. For me this song has been given a fresh breath of air with this cover and I am really happy that I stumbled upon it. Listen and wonder in amazement how someone could actually make the song more sad then it already was.

:UPDATE:

:Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Diamond Sea (Sonic Youth Cover): Well I finally stumbled across this in MP3 format and I wanted to share it with you guys because it is very nicely done. I noted when I originally posted the stuff below that I love how these guys always give you something a little different than what you would expect them to do. This song is no exception, enjoy.

:Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Let Me Know (Demo):  This was on the "Gold Lion" EP that I apparently missed before the release of "Show Your Bones" earlier this year. This is one of those songs where you have no doubt as to why the Yeah Yeah Yeah's are so respected and adored by just about everyone. Karen O and crew always give the listener a song that invokes a myriad of different things, whether it is wanting to jump around and break stuff or just wanting to lie around on the floor while listening to the band on a good pair of headphones. Just so you know this is one to hear in headphones so if you have some make sure to use them with this song.

:Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Gold Lion (Nick Zinner Remix):  This song is also from that "Gold Lion" EP and the reason I posted it up is because the remix is done by their guitarist, Nick. I have grown fond of artists that remix their own songs because they always seem to come out better then if someone, who probably does not really "get" the song, whips one up on their computer one afternoon. The song is not overdone and it contains a lot of nice little detailed additions that spruce it up and give it a different edge. I know I am describing what a remix essentially is but it seems like there are jokers everywhere pumping out crap at an alarming rate so I wanted to take a moment to restate what a remix should be.
