Music!  Enjoy.

:The Men – Crime:  I wasn’t all that into the first single (it’s called Lion) off of The Men’s upcoming LP, but this one is pretty great.  Makes me want to jam garage rock tunes all day.  Devil Music is due out on November 11 via Bandcamp.

:The Orwells – Buddy:  It’s already been two years since The Orwells released Disgraceland.  That’s weird to me.  Anyhow, this little quickie is catchy.  A new album from the band is expected in early 2017.

:Very Fresh – Hat Tree:  1) Very Fresh main brain Cindy Lou Gooden and Speedy Ortiz’s Sadie Dupuis are in an all-girl Pavement cover band called Babement. What!  I need to see that.  2) I dig the way this song drips with sincerity.  Hey, It’s Me! is due out November 4 via New Professor Music/Inflated Records.

:The Mary Onettes – Juna:  Here’s the latest well crafted pop gem from The Mary Onettes.  Be sure to put on headphones so that all of its pretty sounds can fill your head.  The Juna single is available now via Bandcamp.

:STRFKR – Satellite:  STRFKR’s upcoming album wasn’t really on my anticipated list, but I believe this song just put it there.  It’s such a comfy jam.  Being No One, Going No Where is due out November 4 via Polyvinyl.

Music!  Enjoy.

:Curtis Harding – Keep On Shining:  Sharon Jones is back, Houston is flexing The Suffers, and now there’s Curtis Harding.  2014 is looking like it’s going to be a great one for soul music.  Look out for Soul Power on April 22 via Burger Records.

:Horse Thief – Devil:  Here’s a new one from Oklahoma City’s Horse Thief, who I happened to see at Holy Mountain while doing some wandering over the weekend.  They’ve got a pleasant, well layered sound.  Fear In Bliss is expected out on April 14 via Bella Union.

:Tycho – Montana:  On the instrumental front, the album I’m looking forward to the most right now is the new one from Tycho.  Talk about headphone bliss.  Ghostly International will release Awake on March 18.  Catch Tycho at the Parish on May 1.

:The Mary Onettes – Silence Is A Gun:  I’ve never seen the Mary Onettes, so news of them being at this year’s SXSW put a smile on my face.  This song with the pretty sound is off of a mini-album titled Portico, which is due out on March 4 via Labrador.

:She Sir – Condensedindents:  If you’ve been hanging around SOTO for a while, then you’ve probably seen She Sir mentioned a few times.  They’re definitely on the list of Austin pop acts that deserve your attention.  You’ll be able to get Go Guitars on February 25 via Shelflife Records.  The band is set to have an album release show on Feburary 27 at the Mohawk.

Quickdraw: Bill Baird, Born Ruffians, Tera Melos, The Mary Onettes, Keep Shelly In Athens

Today’s music thinks you should get out more.  Enjoy.

:Bill Baird – Spring Break Of The Soul:  Austin’s Bill Baird is back on the scene with a double album, and I can’t wait to check it out.  This elaborately creative single should put you in the same mindset.  Spring Break Of The Soul is due out on March 5 via Pau Wau Records.

:Born Ruffians – Needle:  I’ve been jamming this song for days.  It’s upbeat, refreshing, and I just can’t get it out of my head.  Get ready to want to high five someone.  The band will release Birthmarks on April 16 via Yep Roc, and then they’ll play Red 7 on April 20.

:Tera Melos – Sunburn:  Looks like it’s time to start paying some real attention to this band, as I really dig this super catchy, kinetic track.  Tera Melos will release X’ed Out on April 16 via Sargent House.  They’re also set to play Red 7 on May 18.

:The Mary Onettes – Hit The Waves:  I almost forgot that the Mary Onettes are releasing a new album this year.  It should be a good one, especially if it has a few more Cure-esque songs like this one.  Hit The Waves is due out on March 12 via Labrador.

:Keep Shelly In Athens – Madmen Love:  This is by far the best song I’ve heard from Keep Shelly In Athens.  It’s intense and inspired, and I highly recommend that you do at least one listen with a good pair of headphones on.  The Madmen Love 7″ is currently available via Cascine.
