Show Of The Week (Powered by Pulsr)

My good buddy Nathan (from Austin Town Hall) and me via my radio show, 101X Homegrown, have a rad gig happening this Saturday at Barracuda.  It’s a total Back To School Bash with a loaded bill that features Shivery Shakes, Basketball Shorts (creators of one of my fav albums this year – Hot And Ready), Summer Salt, Young Girls, Mean Jolene, Rose Selavy and Plantation Band.  What a lineup!  And the best part is that it’ll only cost you $5.  That’s right, for $5 you’ll get to see seven of my favorite bands out of Austin (and Houston).  You’d be super silly to miss it.

By the way, if $5 is just way too pricey for you, then shoot me a note HERE with the subject TUITION IS EXPENSIVE AND I’M BROKE.  On the day of the show I’ll randomly draw someone for a pair of guest list spots.

Check it out on Facebook HERE.

PS – If you’re inclined to see me twice this week, I’ll be at the Oasis on Friday for a show I booked for 93.7 KLBJ.  It’s FREE and you’ll get to see A. Sinclair, Nic Armstrong And The Thieves and PT Banks.

On Saturday you should head to Spider House for their 20th Anniversary Party.  Not only is the event FREE, but there will be a giant water slide and a Tito’s Vodka dunk tank!  Also – and this is the best part – there’s a pretty rad bill that consists of The Octopus Project, Mobley, Ringo Deathstarr, Foot Patrol, The Peach Kings, Dead Music Capital Marching Band, Shivery Shakes, MCG, Wonderbitch, The Rotten Mangos, Orthy, Pleasers, Rose Selavy, Magic Rockers of Texas, Loteria, NGHT HCKLRS and Teevee.  Whew.  That’s a hell of a lineup.  Also, I mentioned it’s a FREE event, yeah?  Doors are at 2:3pm.  Be there.

Check it out on Facebook HERE.

Show Of The Week

Even though this is kind of a low key week for shows in Austin (SXSW is clearly looming), there’s still a lot that you could get out and see.  As always, if you’re going to pick just one show to attend, go with my top choice, which is Roses, Shivery Shakes, Rose Selavy and Typical Girls at Barracuda tomorrow night.  That’s four quality indie pop bands for … well, I don’t know how much because I can’t find it listed anywhere.  Regardless, I’m sure it won’t be expensive, and like I said, all four bands are good.  Be there.

BONUS Show Recommendations:

Thursday:
- Tuxedo (DJ set), Blue The Misfit, The Digital Wild at the Parish

Friday:
- Cross Record at End of an Ear
- Rain Collectors, Reservations, Tremble Out, Tapes at Cheer Up Charlie’s
- The Villas (record release), Wildcat Apollo, Loafers at the Mohawk
- Sailor Poon, Dan Doyle Solo Loop Set, Loteria, Basketball Shorts at Hotel Vegas
- DJ Hey Chris Page, Kay Oddysey, Que Pasa, Tres Oui at The Blackheart

Saturday:
- A Giant Dog, The Ripe, Street Dads at ABGB

Because it’s a holiday weekend there’s a good chance that things will be a bit chaotic downtown.  If that doesn’t sound particularly inviting to you, then here’s a great alternative plan – head to ABGB (Austin Beer Garden Brewing Co.) on Saturday to see the trash poet himself John Wesley Coleman III, SOTO-favs The Sour Notes and the buzzy indie pop act Rose Selavy.  It’s FREE, and there’s quality food and beer to be had (this part isn’t free, but you’ll be fine).  Have a blast.

If you’re down for whatever this weekend, here are some other shows worth catching.

Thursday:
- Miracles of Modern Science, Blue Healer, Slomo Drags at the Spiderhouse Ballroom

Friday:
- A Giant Dog, Drakulas, Borzoi at The Sidewinder
- The Eastern Sea, The Loblolly Boy, DJ Jake Brice at the Spiderhouse Ballroom
- Quiet Company, A. Sinclair, Demitasse at Holy Mountain
- Dark Rooms, The Clouds Are Ghosts, Neosho at the Mohawk
The Rich Hands, Lochness Mobsters, Loteria, Mad Maude & The Hatters, The Bolos at Hotel Vegas

Saturday:
- Quiet Company, Otis The Destroyer, Suburban Slang at Holy Mountain
- Purity Ring at the Austin Music Hall
