Keep Shelly In Athens

I wasn’t aware that Sarah P had decided to give up her vocal duties in Keep Shelly In Athens.  What happened?  Which one of you did something to annoy her?  What a bummer.  On the bright side, RΠЯ is still crafting stellar chillwave sounds for the band, and I can’t deny that the new singer, Myrtha, seems to have the right voice for the gig.  Hear what I mean via their slick new single, which I assume is the first of many to come from the retooled act.  Enjoy.

Quickdraw: Keep Shelly In Athens, No Age, Elf Power, Army Navy, Mazzy Star

July 18, 2013

My inbox is overflowing, so you’re getting a third Quickdraw this week.  Enjoy.

:Keep Shelly In Athens – Recollection:  I don’t think I can recall Keep Shelly In Athens ever sounding this clean.  It works well for them.  You’ll be able to snatch up their new album, At Home, when it’s released on September 17 via Cascine.

:No Age – An Impression:  If you’re thinking you should skip over this track because No Age usually blast out of your speakers and rattle your brain, then you’re making a mistake!  This one is a slow burner, and it’s fantastic.  An Object is due out on August 20 via Sub Pop.

:Elf Power – Sunlight On The Moon:  It’s a little crazy that Elf Power have been around for nearly 20 years.  What have any of us committed to for that long?  Anyhow, this track is catchy, and I’m ready to check out Sunlight On The Moon.  It’s due October 1 on Darla/Orange Twin.

:Army Navy – Crushed Like The Car:  “I would like to fall right off the planet.”  This is such a dramatic song, but I really like it.  We’ll all be able to check out the rest of Army Navy’s The Crushed EP when it gets set free on August 20 through Fever Zone Records.

:Mazzy Star – California:  The illusive Mazzy Star have returned!  And it would appear that they’re still as good as ever, because this song is stellar.  Seasons Of Your Day, which is their first album since 1996′s Among My Swan, is due on September 24 via Rhymes Of An Hour.

Quickdraw: Bill Baird, Born Ruffians, Tera Melos, The Mary Onettes, Keep Shelly In Athens

February 25, 2013

Today’s music thinks you should get out more.  Enjoy.

:Bill Baird – Spring Break Of The Soul:  Austin’s Bill Baird is back on the scene with a double album, and I can’t wait to check it out.  This elaborately creative single should put you in the same mindset.  Spring Break Of The Soul is due out on March 5 via Pau Wau Records.

:Born Ruffians – Needle:  I’ve been jamming this song for days.  It’s upbeat, refreshing, and I just can’t get it out of my head.  Get ready to want to high five someone.  The band will release Birthmarks on April 16 via Yep Roc, and then they’ll play Red 7 on April 20.

:Tera Melos – Sunburn:  Looks like it’s time to start paying some real attention to this band, as I really dig this super catchy, kinetic track.  Tera Melos will release X’ed Out on April 16 via Sargent House.  They’re also set to play Red 7 on May 18.

:The Mary Onettes – Hit The Waves:  I almost forgot that the Mary Onettes are releasing a new album this year.  It should be a good one, especially if it has a few more Cure-esque songs like this one.  Hit The Waves is due out on March 12 via Labrador.

:Keep Shelly In Athens – Madmen Love:  This is by far the best song I’ve heard from Keep Shelly In Athens.  It’s intense and inspired, and I highly recommend that you do at least one listen with a good pair of headphones on.  The Madmen Love 7″ is currently available via Cascine.
